Quality Manager

SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, oversee and work along side of the Quality Control department by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. 

  • Responsible for maintaining quality initiatives, including ISO, QS, etc.
  • Oversee the operations of the Quality Control department.
  • Support implementing new Quality Standards as assigned.
  • Inspect parts with calipers, micrometers, microscopes, indicators, and height gages.
  • Compare parts with specified dimensions.
  • Check the flatness of the parts with a granite block.
  • Provide input and support for inspection fixture design and development
  • Make judgment on the inspected part and give approval if acceptable.
  • Perform personnel evaluations.
  • Develop and implement training programs for personnel
  • Perform calibrations for all tools.
  • Distribute jobs throughout the department.
  • Communicate with customers about their specifications and expectations/quality standards.
  • Maintain and complete corrective action reports and respond to customers.
  • Gather and analyze data on parts quality and production performance
  • Prepare and lead Management Reviews for assigned production areas
  • Recommend and implement continuous improvement activities for assigned quality areas
  • Work with suppliers to insure they adhere to quality and performance expectations
  • Share best practices and ideas with other Quality managers to results in best cohesive, corporate wide quality practices
  • Ensure that quality plans are implemented and adhered to.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Comply with state and federal law safety regulations in addition to Oberg safety and security procedures. 
  • Adhere to company policies and state and federal laws and regulations relating to employment, including promoting a workplace free of discrimination and harassment.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to subordinate supervisory personnel to ensure that company goals and objectives are met.
  • Ensure that subordinate personnel adhere to company policies and procedures in addition to applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Supervise staff including interview, selection and hiring process, employee communications, performance review process and employee disciplinary process (in coordination with the human resources).
  • Other related duties as assigned.     

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in a standing, sitting, or bent position for 10 hours/day; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; look through an eyepiece microscope. The employee must be able to travel between departments and divisions, and domestic and international travel is occasionally required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to loud noises and occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and occasionally travels within and through departments and divisions and to customer sites.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have excellent analytical skills and ability to think logically
  • Ability to work well with peers and customers to solve complex problems in an accelerated time frame
  • Must be able to understand and apply work-related documents such as operating manuals, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to understand and perform to job-related quality standards and methods.
  • Must be able to understand and perform to job-related quality standards, methods, usage of inspection devices and reporting as required.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or be able to comply with U.S. export regulations. 
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, including geometric tolerances, and comprehend specifications.
  • Must have a working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Windows applications.
  • Under normal business conditions, must be able to work 50 hours per week, however, schedule will be adjusted according to business and operational needs.
  • Must possess knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Must be able to organize work and prioritize tasks.
  • Must be able to understand written correspondence.
  • Must be able to communicate through written, verbal, or other means of communication.
  • Must be able to wear personal protection equipment, such as earplugs, safety glasses, and safety shoes.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE / EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Associates Degree in Quality or related field or equivalent experience required.
  • At least three years experience working with ISO 9000 required.
  • Minimally one year experience working with TS16949 required.
  • 5 Years experience in Quality experience required.
  • 1 – 2 Years management experience preferred.
  • Experience with analytical packages (SPC, FMEA, etc.) is preferred.
